Health coaching supports the changes you choose to make in everyday life. It is not medical care, and it does not replace advice, diagnosis or treatment from your GP or specialist.

What health coaching is

Coaching is a supportive, practical conversation about your own goals. It helps you work out what realistically fits your life, decide what to try next, and stay accountable to changes you have chosen — around nutrition, sleep, stress, movement, energy and everyday habits.

You stay in charge throughout. Coaching does not tell you what you must do, and it works alongside whatever care you already receive.

What health coaching is not

Coaching does not include, and is never a substitute for:

  • diagnosing a condition, or telling you what is wrong with you
  • prescribing, recommending, changing or stopping any medication
  • treatment for an illness, injury or acute health problem
  • a second opinion on advice you have been given by a doctor or specialist
  • urgent, emergency or crisis care of any kind

If something needs medical attention, coaching is not the right place for it, and Sophie will say so.

Sophie's background, and the boundary that comes with it

Sophie is a Registered Nurse and a Health & Wellness Coach trained by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. That nursing background is why she understands the health system and can talk sensibly about how everyday change fits around a long-term condition.

It is important to be clear about what that does not mean. When you work with Sophie you are working with a coach, not with a nurse. Coaching sessions are not nursing care, not a clinical appointment, and not part of your NHS or private medical treatment. Nothing said in coaching becomes part of your medical record, and Sophie does not take clinical responsibility for your care.

Your GP, specialist and wider clinical team remain responsible for your medical care throughout.

When to speak to someone else instead

If you are worried about a symptom, or something feels wrong, please speak to a medical professional rather than waiting for a coaching session.

  • Your GP or specialist — for anything about your health, your diagnosis, your medication or your treatment.
  • NHS 111 — when you need medical help or advice urgently but it is not an emergency. Call 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk.
  • 999 — in an emergency, or if you believe someone is in immediate danger.

If you are struggling with your mental health and need to talk to someone now, you can call Samaritans free on 116 123, at any time of day or night.

Please do not use this website, the contact form or the booking calendar to report an urgent or emergency health concern. They reach an ordinary email inbox, they are not monitored around the clock, and Sophie does not provide an emergency, crisis or out-of-hours service. Use the routes above instead.

Information published on this website

Articles and other general information on this site are written for a wide audience. They are not personal advice, they are not tailored to your circumstances, and they cannot take account of your history, your medication or your diagnosis.

Please do not use anything here to decide whether to start, stop or change treatment. If something you read raises a question about your own health, take it to your GP or specialist.

Results

Coaching depends on your circumstances, your energy and what is realistic for you at the time, so no particular outcome is promised or guaranteed. Progress looks different from person to person, and can look different from week to week — particularly when living with chronic illness, pain or fatigue.

Questions about any of this

If you are unsure whether coaching is right for you, or whether something is better taken to your GP, please ask before booking. Email sophie_lockley@outlook.com, or use the free discovery call to talk it through — there is no obligation to go ahead.
